May Favorites ft. Jealous Body Scrub

Screen Shot 2015-05-21 at 7.10.21 PM

I honestly cannot believe that today is the last day of May! This month flew by with Graduation festivities, senior week, and so many other reasons to celebrate.  Today I’m sharing my top beauty picks from the month of May and hope you enjoy them!  These are things that made getting through my Grad month juuust a bit more glam.

1. Jealous Body Scrub – Let’s start off with my absolute favorite product of the month that I never knew I needed – BODY SCRUB.  Why didn’t I get on the body scrub train earlier?  Natural beauty products are always a plus in my book! I finally joined the Jealous Body Scrub fan club and gave their amazing scrub a try.  I first used this Canadian brand’s coffee & coconut scrub after I noticed my spray tan wearing off and, I have to tell you, this scrub really worked off the funky remnants of my spray tan and left me with smooth, soft skin!  It also smelled heavenly – like coconut and coffee!  This is because it’s made of ground coffee, cold pressed coconut oil, sea salt, raw brown sugar, vitamin E & minerals.  Jealous Body Scrub works to reduce appearance of cellulite, eczema, stretch marks, age spots, varicose veins, psoriasis and acne while also hydrating + protecting your skin.  I’ve been using it 2-3 times a week because I’m heading to Las Vegas next weekend (woo!) and I want my skin to be absolutely glowing.  I’m completely hooked on this yummy-smelling beauty product – what’s not to love?! I highly recommend trying Jealous Body Scrub out, you’ll thank me later.  Check out their website here if you’re curious. (You also might want to check out their super fun Instagram account, it’s full of gorgeous people using their product!)

2. EOS Lip Balm – The circular shape of this lip balm makes it super easy to find when digging for it in your purse! The balm itself has great staying-power and doesn’t make your lips slippery or shiny like other balms.

3. EOS Everyday Hand Lotion – This lotion from EOS also has a unique shape that is easy to find in your purse! The lid snaps closed and stays closed, which is important when throwing it into your bag.  The lotion itself smells wonderful and doesn’t leave your hands greasy.

4. REVLON Self-Adhesive Lashes – I LOVE THESE.  Why didn’t I think of these first?!  These lashes come with a black adhesive already on them, making your beauty routine a bit simpler.  The adhesive is also awesome because it doubles as eyeliner and really covers the strip of lashes!  These beauties can be reused up to 5 times, in my own experience, before you have to move on to another adhesive strip (which you re-apply yourself, and it’s quite easy!).

5. It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-in Product – I got this as a free sample a few weeks ago and I’ve been using it ever since.  It is a bit pricy, so I’m debating purchasing my own full-sizer bottle of it, but so far I think it is an awesome leave-in product for people who prefer to blow-dry their hair.

6. Too Faced Lip Injection Color Bomb! – I’m thoroughly obsessed with this product!  My favorite balm from this product line is called “Never Enough Nude,” it’s the perfect pinky-nude color.  Too Faced calls these Color Bombs “moisture plumping lip tints” – but I would say that they wear more like a lipstick/lipgloss hybrid.  They’re not quite as thin as most lip tints are.  Also, this product makes your lips tingle and “plump up” for about 30 minutes, which can be kind of alarming at first, but it doesn’t make your lips look strange or out of the ordinary (which is great if you’re not a Kardashian, ha).

Tips for Reselling Designer Items

Screen Shot 2015-05-28 at 7.43.40 PM

Do you have a designer handbag that you aren’t crazy about?  Some trendy wedges that didn’t end up fitting as well as you’d hoped?  A gorgeous dress that doesn’t fit your style anymore?  Well, you’ve come to the right place.  For years, I’ve been reselling items on eBay in order to make space in my closet and recoup a generous percentage of the retail price.  In my experience, the best way resell designer items is online.  At first, it can be a bit tricky to navigate eBay and designer resale sites – but I promise you will get a lot more money selling your used designer goods online than you would by handing your gently-used items over to a consignment store for them to resell.  Do it yourself and get more than just a small percentage of the sale.  Join the millions of fashionistas that are reselling their pre-loved designer items online!

I have quite a bit of experience in designer resale online and have put together my best tips below for those of you who are ready to get rid of a few things while also recovering some of the funds you put into them.  Hopefully my tips make letting go of your gently used items a little less painful!

My USC Graduation Ceremony ft. L’Oréal Paris!

885697_10152947603519010_8220463019791319975_o
Earlier this month, I graduated from the my dream school – the University of Southern California.  Of course, this occasion called for a photo shoot (or two!).  I was super excited for our long list of Commencement week activities until I saw that RAIN was headed for Los Angeles!  I hoped it wouldn’t actually rain, but it did. And it rained quite a bit for Southern California.  My graduating class is one of very few USC graduating classes to have experienced rain during their Commencement week!

I was a little worried about how the pictures would turn out with the rain so I did some research and was pleasantly surprised to find that I already owned a great foundation for rainy days + photo shoots.  About a month ago, I received L’Oréal’s Infallible Pro Matte Foundation from Seventeen magazine’s Seventeen Social Club.  I saw fantastic reviews about it online, so I decided to give it a go.  This foundation photographed beautifully and definitely stayed in place during the downpour!  It has medium-to-full coverage and EXTREME staying-power in the rain, due to its 24-hour formula.  The demi-matte finish looked and felt super light on my skin, which is a plus.  Rain or shine, I think this is my new go-to foundation.

Today I’m sharing several photos from my Graduation photo shoot as well as photos from the day of my actual Graduation ceremony!  Most of these were taken by my amazing mother, Susan.  Oh, and in case you are wondering, the large group shots are of me and my sorority sisters from USC Alpha Delta Pi.  Scroll to then end of the photos for full details.

FIGHT ON!

I also plan on posting about my Graduation party + Grad party decor in the next few weeks!  I had a wonderful time celebrating my time at USC with my friends and family…I am so grateful for all of my supportive friends/family and thank them SO much for being such positive influences in my life!

Next stop – FASHION SCHOOL! 🙂 Feel free to share links to your own graduation posts in the comments! I’d love to hear how your big day went as well!

Trend Alert: Wedges!

Who else is SUPER excited that wedges are making big splash this season?!

I know wedges might look super high and uncomfortable, but if you already own your dream pair of wedges, you’ll believe me when I say that they are actually a lot more comfortable than traditional heels/pumps (thanks to the added platform that most wedges have in the front toe area!).

With wedges definitely “in” for spring/summer, I thought it would be a great idea to round up my favorite picks at several price points: $100 & under, $500 & Under, and Splurges. Enjoy!

Teen Vogue’s Fashion University | NYC

I am so excited to finally be sharing my Teen Vogue Fashion University experience with all of you! Last week, my mom and I (along with a group of my fabulous best friends) traveled to New York City to attend Teen Vogue’s “Fashion University.”

Teen Vogue Fashion University is a 3-day event that includes celebrity appearances, guest speakers from the fashion industry, panels with Teen Vogue’s editors, and many networking opportunities.  The weekend was packed with many events, so I have put together some photos and stories from our key-outings below! Enjoy!

IMG_9669Screen Shot 2015-03-17 at 1.10.41 PMScreen Shot 2015-03-19 at 5.44.46 PM

Day 1: Kick-off event with EXPRESS in Times Square

The evening started (of course..) with a little photo shoot on our hotel’s rooftop patio.  I am not used to any sort of chilly weather, so I opted for a scarf and pink coat.  Alex wore a super fun dress that we found on Melrose Blvd when she visited back in January!  (Note: we accessorized with gorgeous jewels from ViVi Jewelry all weekend & all of our lip colors are from YSL cosmetics).   After photos, we met up with the rest of our group at a restaurant near Times Square for dinner before heading to the first event of Teen Vogue Fashion U.

IMG_9488Alex and I on the rooftop! (You may recognize Alex from my “Sharing my Parsons Experience“ post & also from my “My City, Through a Fresh Pair of Eyes“ post!)

After a fabulous dinner, we headed down North Broadway to our first TVFU event.  It was a chilly in Times Square as we headed towards the EXPRESS store, ducking through crowds of tourists.  When we finally made it to EXPRESS, we walked into a room of well-dressed, bright-eyed fashionistas.  We made our way upstairs and tried to find a place to stand amongst the chaotic crowd of girls that had assembled around the DJ booth and flash-tattoo stations.  Guys, this EXPRESS store crowd was like black Friday X 1000! We all looked at each other and laughed while a dance remix of Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams” blared through the DJ’s speakers.  We had made it to our first event!

IMG_9525 IMG_9526

Unsure of where to start first, we wandered fought our way through the upstairs of EXPRESS. There was a Lash Bar, photo booth, bracelet-making station, and tons of clothing.  It was an awesome event with so much to do upstairs, but the lines were a little too long to stand in so we made our way downstairs to the “mocktail” bar.

At the bar we were served some fruity drinks and sodas and got to chat with other Fashion U students about life, college, and the fashion industry.  The whole event was super energetic and it definitely kicked-off the weekend!

Day 2: Classes, Jessica Simpson, & Touring  Teen Vogue’s Offices

Alex, Shayna, and I cabbed to 1 World Trade Center for the first day of events, unsure of what to expect. We checked in, received our badges, and admired the beautiful new Trade Center building. We had the most amazing views of the city from the Conde Nast offices in the Trade Center!  The building wasn’t fully finished being built, but the industrial feel of the unfinished walls and floors made a great stage for the event.  Alex and I “majored” in Design/Styling, which meant that we got to attend panels held by major players in the fashion industry.  We were super excited to get started as headed upstairs to the 34th floor for our first “class.”

IMG_9590

IMG_9603IMG_9596Alex’s Accessories from Day 2

We sat down at our first event and prepared to absorb as much as we could from the multi-talented Vashtie Kola.  When we entered the room, there were huge totes on all of our seats with samples inside.  We all loved the totes provided by EXPRESS!  Throughout the day we heard from Jens Grede, Rebecca Minkoff, Micaela Erlanger, Jodie Snyder, and the Teen Vogue Editors.  We also got to see some an exhibit featuring fashions from the new Cinderella movie.

My favorite speaker was Rebecca Minkoff – she is so well spoken and was very honest about her journey to the top!  She shared a few of her company’s biggest failures (like when her manufacturer accidentally shipped her handbags with “Kate Spade” stamped closures instead of Rebecca Minkoff parts!) and also shared a few of her greatest achievements, such as her newly opened stores that provide customers with a high-tech shopping experience.

Although we did not get to see Jessica Simpson speak as she was presenting to another major, Alex and I did run into her on our way out of the bathroom.  She is literally just as perfect in real life as you would imagine, guys!

We wrapped classes up with (more!) mocktails.  Before leaving the Trade Center, a wonderful member of the Teen Vogue staff took Alex and I up to her office to take a look around.  Up in the Teen Vogue offices, we got to peek into the styling closet!  This was the highlight of my entire experience at Teen Vogue Fashion U. I am so thankful that we were given the opportunity to peek into Teen Vogue’s headquarters! The view was absolutely amazing – y0u could see the Statue of Liberty out the window and it felt like we were on top of the world.

Day 3: “Graduation,” Tea, & Central Park

On the final day of TVFU, we heard from the keynote speaker, Zac Posen.  Zac was absolutely amazing! He shared stories about his rise to fame and answered many questions from the crowd about his greatest achievements, biggest failures, and best pieces of advice to young aspiring fashion designers.  His panel was particularly interesting because there were two of his dresses displayed out on stage so that he was able to show us the construction of the dresses while talking about them.  The event wrapped up with everyone receiving their Teen Vogue Fashion U diplomas and, of course, more pictures.

While the TVFU event had officially ended, we weren’t ready to rest just yet.  Alex, Shayna, Shayna’s Mom/Grandma, my mom, and I all headed over to The Plaza Hotel for afternoon tea.  It was the cutest tea set up that I’ve ever seen! We all ordered the “Eloise Tea” (complete with cotton candy!) and made sure to take tons of pictures of the gorgeous location between conversations.  We also made our way to Bergdorf Goodman and took a carriage ride around the snow-covered Central Park!

Day 4: Brunch!

On our final day in NYC, my mom and I visited Laduree for brunch. This is one of my favorite restaurants because it reminds me of Paris (and they have really yummy macarons…).  It was a great way to end the trip and I am so happy that my mom was able to accompany me to Teen Vogue Fashion U and loves fashion as much as I do. We had a fabulous time – she is the best travel  buddy!

IMG_0007IMG_9973 IMG_9985 IMG_9999  IMG_0047

When we landed in Los Angeles, my mom and I found out from a friend that Alex, my new friend Zineb, and I were featured on Teen Vogue’s online fashion column!

Screen Shot 2015-03-19 at 4.26.35 PM

Our trip to NYC was filled with many exciting opportunities, celebrities, and memories. While getting a tour of Teen Vogue’s headquarters and seeing the view of NYC from the 64th floor of the new Trade Center were highlights of my trip, I have to say that the absolute best part of all was spending time with my fabulous best friends (and their families!) in the city that never sleeps. We had an awesome time and I hope that you consider attending Teen Vogue Fashion U 2016!

Bridal Shower Fun!

This past weekend, my mother, sister, and I had the pleasure of hosting our dear family friend’s bridal shower! The bride, Robin, and her sister, Carly, have been part of our lives for as long as I can remember. They used to babysit the whole Bridgford bunch (all 5 of us!) and have always been like big-sisters to me!

My mom and I had soo much fun planning the shower!  She did most of the planning/ordering and I did most of the crafting/decor.  We booked a private room at Prego in Irvine, CA.  In preparation for the shower, I looked at dozens of pinterest boards for games, prizes, and fun decor possibilities.  We ended up ordering a gorgeous cake from Cinderella Cakes in Laguna Hills.  In addition, we ordered  delicious (and super stylish) “wedding dress” cookies to give out as party favors. During the event, we played three games: “It’s All About Robin,” “Who Got the Groom?,” and a fun fill-in-the-blank game using candy bars as the answers.  Keep reading for full details on the games, decor, and desserts!

IMG_4091Pictured left to right: Susan (aka my gorgeous mom), Robin’s friend, Robin (the bride!), Ashley, Me, and Carly (Robin’s sister)

THE GAMESIMG_90631. The first game, “It’s All About Robin,” consisted of 15 questions…all about the bride! Whoever answered the most correctly got to pick their prize!

IMG_90522. The second game, “Who Got the Groom?,” was a simpler game where we handed out a hot pink envelope to each guest.  When we said to open the envelope, whoever got the popsicle stick with a picture of the groom (in a  tuxedo!) attached to it was the winner.  This was our adaptation of when the bride throws the boutique at a wedding – whoever won was next to be married! Robin’s best friend who flew in from New York was the winner.  Check out the photos below to see some of the other handsome guys involved in the game!

IMG_90643. The third game was the most fun, in my opinion! My mom put together a big poster board full of candy bars, which served as our “word bank.”  We then got a sheet of questions that we answered using the names of candy bars – it was really funny!  The winner won the board full of candy, of course.

THE SETTING, DECOR, AND FOOD
I was absolutely obsessed with the way that Robin’s chair decorations turned out! I simply got a bunch of white tulle, cut it into long strips, and looped the strips around the chair.  My mom brought a string of white flowers that I wove into the tulle as well! We bought the metallic vases for the centerpieces and had a local florist put together the arrangements. They looked fabulous!  The food at Prego was absolutely delicious. We had appetizers consisting of grilled vegetables, caprese salad, and several other small bites.  We had a light salad and then several different types of pasta for the main course, served family-style.

{My Hair Care Routine}

I get quite a few questions about what products I use to clean, protect, and style my hair…so I thought I’d post about my favorite products!

To clean and condition my blonde hair, I use Paul Mitchell shampoo and conditioner. Once a week, I also use Naissant’s shampoo and treatment in order to eliminate the gold/bronze tones that can show up in my hair over time. When blowing out my hair, I use Naissant’s Argan Oil Elixir because it makes my hair shiny and silky – without weighing it down.  When I plan on blowdrying and then straightening my hair, I use 12 Benefits’s Instant Healthy Hair Treatment. It makes your hair feel so amazing! I highly recommend it for anyone that uses heat to style their hair because it protects and conditions.

For styling, I use a fabulous (and well priced) blowdryer from Ultra CHI. I’ve had it for almost two years and it has never had an issue, which makes it a winner in my book!  To straighten my hair, I use GHD’s classic styler. When you’re in a hurry, it also doubles as a hair curler! When I tell people that I use a straightener to curl my hair, they look at me confused and start asking all sorts of questions. It’s actually very easy and much quicker than using a curling iron. I promise that you can learn how to do it too after doing some “research” on YouTube.  The best part is that your curls will hold longer since the straightener heats the hair from both sides and really locks in the curl. Whenever I do have time enough time to curl my hair, I use the T3 styling wand – it’s the best curling wand I’ve ever come across! I’ve had mine for close to 5 years and it is still in perfect condition, so I highly recommend investing in this particular curling iron if you want one that will last a couple years.
